Presented is a remarkable photograph signed by actor Sir Charles Spencer “Charlie” Chaplin (d.1977). This amazing 7x9 sepia tone, linen finish portrait presents in high state of preservation with fantastic original gloss. Chaplin considered the greatest actor of the silent film era, applied his endorsement in black ink by steel tip fountain pen. This signature presents bold (“8-9”) quality and appears between the salutation “With Compliments” and the date “19-28”. Ironically this youthful photo of the great silent film star is dated at the time when talking features began phasing out silent films. The reverse side of this photograph features the date “March 27, 1928” and is signed “Hilda Clark”. It’s possible the recipient of this photo was model & actress Hilda Clark best known as “the Face of Coca-Cola” 1895-1903. Also appearing on the reverse is a list of three of Chaplin’s best films: “The Circus”, “The Gold Rush” & “City Lights”. The last title is followed by the partial date 193 suggesting Ms. Clark was aware Chaplin had begun work on “City Lights” which was released in 1931 and is considered Chaplin’s greatest achievement.
