Description

Introducing blue satin uniforms during the 1944 campaign to allow better viewing in night games, the Brooklyn Dodgers quickly ended the experiment (possibly citing the club’s only losing season in a 19-year span). Fast forward 67 years to August 31, 2011, and the “baby blue” was back (albeit for one game). These (8) game-worn throwback ensembles feature proper twill identifiers and “Majestic” tagging, as well as black No. “4” patches to honor fallen teammate Duke Snider. Wearing the garments that day were: Castro, DeJesus, Jr., De La Rosa, Gibbons, Navarro, Sands, Thames and Troncoso. More on our website.

Worn during the August 31, 2011 game against the San Diego Padres, the uniform jerseys/pants show appropriate single-game wear and were respectively donned by:

Juan Castro Jersey a powder-blue thick mesh button-down garment with “Brooklyn” angled across the chest in white twill and “3” sewn to the back in like fashion. White trim lines the shoulders and sleeve endings, while a 2”-diameter black patch with an embroidered “4” is sewn to the left sleeve in honor of fallen teammate Duke Snider. Within the collar, a lengthy strip tag has chain stitched identifiers which read: “3 Castro 46 1944.” The left front tail is home to an appliqué “Majestic” size “46” label and the left side seam’s interior features a fabric content size “46” tag with a “63TB” gamer code; Pants powder blue knit leg wear with seven belt loops, a two-button zippered fly and two mesh-lined back pockets. The elasticized waistband’s interior is home to a “Majestic” label, as well as a strip tag with stitched identifiers reading: “3 Castro 36-40 35 OB C 1944.”
