In this age of texts and tweets, hand written letters from star players stand out as amazing relics of a bygone era. Presented are (5) original letters signed by early 20th Century baseball legends, (4) of whom are enshrined in the Hall of Fame. The candid, down to earth contents display a fine sense of propriety making for fascinating collectibles. Applied in blue or black ink by ballpoint pen each signature displays a firm (“9”) quality. The (5) authors are Bill Dickey (d.1993), George Kelly (d.1984), Joe McCarthy (d.1978), Joe Sewell (d.1990) and Bob Shawkey (d.1980). All PSA/DNA certification. More on our website
Each of these letters is written on an 8-1/2” x 10-1/2” sheet of lined loose leaf paper. All are in solid condition with typical light folds and display clearly legible writing on off-white pages. The contents of the letters address questions about greatest thrills, lifetime stats, teams played for and greatest teammates. Especially thrilling is Shawkey’s list of teammates which includes Ruth, Gehrig and “Home Run” Baker, and the modesty of manager Joe McCarthy who won a record seven World Series titles with the Yankees is dumbfounding.
