While it’s not a promise of Hall of Fame induction, or even a guarantee of superstardom, Major League Baseball’s “Rookie of the Year” honor has given ample inspiration to many. This “Freshman Phenoms” display is autographed by (34) of those first-year standouts. The list includes players who went on to legendary status, as well as those who, years later, prompt the question “Whatever happened to …?” Framed to 27x23, this 20x16 color print showcases a symmetrically arranged collage of player likenesses, each of which is endorsed by its “R.O.Y.” subject. Blue Sharpie signatures trumpet “perfect 10” strength throughout and include: Bahnsen, Bumbry (inscribed “#1”), Carew, Cepeda, Chambliss, Charboneau, Dark, Hamelin, Hansen, F. Howard, Kittle, Listach, Lynn, Matlack, Matthews, McBride, McDougald, Montefusco, Newcombe, Olsen, Peters, Ripken, Jr., Rose, Schwall, Seaver, Sizemore, Virdon and Walton.
Of the pictured winners, only Piniella and Jackie Robinson have not signed.
Autographs of non-pictured Rookie of the Year honorees include: Sabo, Santiago, Tresh, B. Williams, E. Williams and Zachry.
