Each unusual in his own right, Burleigh Grimes and Jackie Jensen enjoyed stellar careers marked by oddities. These (2) 8x10 photos are respectively autographed by Grimes and Jensen. Includes:
Burleigh Grimes a black-and-white photo of Grimes during his tenure (1932-1933) with the Chicago Cubs, one of seven different teams for which he played. Executed in black marker, Grimes’ signature projects (“8”) strength and clarity. The last spitball pitcher to be allowed to throw the deceptive delivery (the pitch was outlawed in 1920 but “grandfathered” top allow existing spitballers to continue until they retired), Grimes (d.1985) not only played for seven different teams, but also had three tours of duty with the Pirates and two with the Cardinals.
Jackie Jensen a color photo of Jensen (d.1982) during his days (1954-1961) with the Red Sox, signed in blue marker by Jensen (“9” strength). The first athlete to play in the Rose Bowl, the World Series and an MLB All-Star Game, Jensen won the MVP award in 1958 but retired at the age of 34, in part because of his intense fear of flying.
