The Touchdown Club of Washington, D.C.’s stated mission is “to promote the best interests of the American game of Football”. Each year the club holds an awards dinner honoring outstanding players and coaches from the high school, collegiate and professional levels. Presented is a program from the Club’s 27th Annual Awards Dinner held at the Sheraton Park Hotel on 1/13/62 signed by (4) including the seldom offered Ernie Davis (d.1963). The Syracuse University star running back was awarded the TD Club’s “Walter Camp Memorial Trophy” as the year’s “Outstanding College Back”. Davis a consensus All-American who was also the first African-American to win the Heisman applied his (“9”) quality endorsement to a dedicated “Autographs” section located on the last page of the program. Additional signers are sitting Vice-President Lyndon Johnson (d.1973, “9”), U.S. Naval Academy All-American end/kicker Greg Mather (“8”) and Massachusetts Congressman McCormack (d.1980, “8”). Among the program’s many interesting photos is a page three image of JFK. Full photo LOA from PSA/DNA. More on our website.
Additional photos of note include award recipients Bryant, Hornung, Lombardi and baseball stars Ford and Musial. The front and back covers display moderate creases which do not impact the autographs. The spine shows moderate wear and the interior pages are in very nice condition. Page one features a nice dedication honoring Texas Congressman Sam Rayburn.
