Even the “King” needed an occasional day off for fun. Presented is an original Type 1 wire photo of Elvis Presley and friends enjoying the “Bumper Cars” ride. This candid 8x10 publicity photo is from the collection of a former Washington Star reporter and is new to the hobby. The reverse bears a typical news service disclaimer and was stamped for release on or after 9/1/60 which was just months after Presley’s return from Military service. This photo presents incredible original detail and a wet-look glossy finish minimally affected by age appropriate signs of wear. More on our website.
The minor signs of wear include light creases mostly on the periphery and a very small bit of surface loss at the lower right corner. These conditions have little impact on the tremendous appeal of this captivating image. There is a typewritten blurb attached to the reverse which features the designation “40305 presley” which is possibly an inventory notation. The blurb is printed on yellow stationary and reads as follows “BUMP AND DRIVE—Driving a rubber-bumper Dodgem car, Elvis happily killed a couple of hours by acting as target for friends who tried to shove him off the floor”.
