Having switched from his father’s Dale Earnhardt, Inc. to the Hendrick Motorsports team in 2008, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. prevailed in both the Budweiser Shootout and Gatorade Duel before finishing 8th in the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in his native North Carolina. There, he wore this “Impact” brand helmet. The thick plastic shell is decorated with “Mountain Dew” and “National Guard” sponsor logos, as well as a skull and symmetrically arranged finery. A “2008 Hendrick Motorsports” logo resides on the back. A cloth lining hangs 9” from the opening and a chin strap is fastened to the padded interior. The piece is also equipped with an interior microphone and radio cord/plug to facilitate in-race communication. This high-speed relic was worn by the sport’s perennial fan favorite.
