Among the earliest souvenirs in Gibbs-Conner’s brief baseball endeavor, this early-1950s Boston Braves porcelain ashtray showcases colorful and detailed traits for which the Cleveland-based manufacturer was known. The bowl portion features two baseball-shaped holders with indentations to facilitate resting a cigarette. “Boston Braves” appears in raised cursive characters and, accenting the piece, a Native-American mascot is complete with war paint, a headdress and a raised glove/ball. The relic displays beautifully with only a hairline crack on the underside of the bowl.
